WordPress Doesn’t Notify Comment Authors When You Reply!

Okay, #StartRant. Did you know that when you reply to a comment on WordPress, it doesn’t automatically notify the comment authors? That means after all those replies you sent, there’s a very solid chance that none of the comment authors even knew you replied!

Crazy, right?!

I’m a consider myself a pretty emotionally-stable guy, but I was pretty heart-broken when I learned about this for the first time. To me, the whole point of receiving comments is so that I can engage with the readers who are commenting on my articles. I guess wasn’t happening…

Lesson learned.

The Fix

If you want comment authors to be notified when you reply to their comments, all you have to do is install a plugin called Simple Comment Notifications. After I installed it, I noticed that people started replying to my replies, so I knew it was working!

You can go to Plugins > Add New and search for it to find it.

You don’t have to do anything after you install and activate it. It just works.

Although the solution is super simple, we shouldn’t have to fix this in the first place. I still really don’t understand why WordPress doesn’t automatically notify comment authors. #EndRant
